Fitzroy Town Hall, Cnr. Moor and Napier Sts. Fitzroy; Main body 1873 (Foundation Stone); Tower Foundation laid 28th July 1887, Geo. Clausen Esq. J.P. Mayor; AB & CN June 4th 1887 p.57 - The Fitzroy T.H. was to be partly pulled down & remodelled in "Italian Renaissance" at an estimated cost of £10,000; AB & CN Aug 6th 1887 p. 203 explains that the work by G.R. Johnson would extend the hall by 30' and add a library, court, police station etc.. The cost was now estimated at £43,000. The reference to the stones being laid Thursday 28th July.
